COVID-19: Odisha govt declares 14-day lockdown from May 5-19

On the wake of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state, Odisha government on Sunday announced a 14-day lockdown from May 5 to 19. As per the guidelines issued by the Odisha government, a person can walk only 500 metres to buy vegetables from 7 am till 12 pm every day. However, the government has not imposed any restrictions on the movement of essential services and people related to health care facilities and services. 

The Odisha government had earlier this month imposed a weekend curfew in the 20 urban districts of the state in wake of the resurgence in COVID-19 cases. However, the weekend curfew was imposed for one week and ended on April 26. Odisha recorded 8,015 new Covid-19 cases and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Sunday.With this, the total number of confirmed cases has gone up to 4,62,622 of which 3,91,048 have recovered and 2,068 have died due to the infection. The active cases stand at 6,9453. Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on April 25 announced free vaccination against Covid-19 for all citizens of the state in the age group of 18 to 44 years. The state government will spend ₹2,000 crore on this vaccination drive, said the Chief Minister's Office.
