Delhi wage workers say, 'It is better to die of COVID19 rather than dying of hunger'

Despite repeated assurances by the Central and state government of no shortage of food and essential services in Delhi, many daily wage earners have complained that they are yet to receive any help.

Many of them have started fleeing the national capital on foot to return to their native villages in nearby Uttar Pradesh and other states because of the hardships being faced by them.

Daily wagers at Delhi's Fatehpur Beri have been facing trouble in wake of Coronavirus Lockdown. Samima, native of Bihar, says,"Our children have been surviving on water for the past 2 days. Landlords are demanding the monthly rent. I urge the govt to either help or send us to our villages"

Rajwati, a daily wage labourer, at Delhi's Fatehpur Beri, says,"We are surviving without food & water here. We request the government to help us. It is better to die of this disease (#COVID19) rather than dying of hunger."
