Amidst the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, India reported 3.52 lakh fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. This is the highest single-day spike registered since the onset of the pandemic. A total of 3,52,991 new COVID-19 cases, 2,812 related deaths and 2,19,272 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total active cases to 28,13,658, as per the health ministry update on Monday morning.

The Centre on April 19 had announced a ''liberalised'' policy, making all above 18 years of age eligible to get vaccinated from May 1. After the announcemnet, several women have raised concerns over taking Covid-19 vaccine during periods. The concerns were triggered after a claim, widely circulating on social media platforms, said that women should not take Covid-19 vaccines five days before and after their period cycle.

The social media post claimed that women should not take vaccines five days before or after their periods as their "immunity is very less" during periods.

FACT CHECK:

The central government quashed the claim and appealed to people to not fall for rumours and get vaccinated. Quashing the rumours, the PIB, in a tweet, said, "#Fake post circulating on social media claims that women should not take #COVID19Vaccine 5 days before and after their menstrual cycle. Don't fall for rumours! All people above 18 should get vaccinated after May 1."

Questions are being asked whether vaccine can be taken by women during menstruation. The answer is YES, the vaccine can be taken during periods. This is no reason to postpone vaccination, said Dr. VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog.
