Goa: Lack of oxygen kills 21 more COVID-19 patients at GMCH

The largest government hospital in Bamboli, Goa, where covid patient continue to die due to inadequate oxygen supply. While 26 people died on Tuesday morning, 21 corona patients died between 2 and 6 am on Wednesday. The government will take care that there will be no deaths due to lack of oxygen, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had said while visiting Bamboli Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday admitted that there is a delay in supplying oxygen to hospitals in Goa amid the surge in COVID-19 cases but ensured that the process will be streamlined from today. On Monday after midnight within four hours 26 people died due to lack of oxygen.

Therefore, Chief Minister Sawant had visited the hospital and clarified that the number of cylinders in the hospital would be increased. However, after midnight on Tuesday, there was a shortage of oxygen supply in ward 122 of Bamboli Hospital. The patients did not get oxygen. As a result, some relatives of the patients also sent WhatsApp messages to the health minister asking for help. However, due to lack of oxygen, 21 patients died in four hours. On Tuesday, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had publicly stated that the court should inquire into why oxygen problems occur after midnight and why victims die.

Meanwhile, Goa reported 3124 new Covid-19 cases, 75 deaths and 2475 recoveries on Tuesday, as per the Goa Health department. The Goa government has also imposed a two-week curfew in the state from May 9 till May 24.
