The Union Cabinet was expanded on Wednesday and 43 ministers were sworn in at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Of them, 15 were sworn in as cabinet ministers and 28 as ministers of state. Senior Maharashtra leader Narayan Rane has been given the post of Cabinet Minister while Kapil Patil, Dr Bharti Pawar and Dr Bhagwat Karad have been given the post of Minister of State. Most importantly, all four have joined the BJP from different parties. Modi's cabinet now has 78 members, including 38 new faces. Twelve of the old ministers have resigned while expanding the Union Cabinet. Prakash Javadekar, Ravishankar Prasad, Dr Harshvardhan and other senior ministers.

After the resignation of Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan also resigned. After the news of Dr. Harshvardhan's resignation came to light, the Congress has strongly targeted the Modi government.

Former Union Minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said that Dr Harshvardhan has been made a 'scapegoat' by the Modi government. Jairam Ramesh tweeted about it from his Twitter account,"Poor Dr. Harsh Vardhan, a good man has been made a scapegoat for monumental failures at the highest level — nowhere else."

During Corona's time, there was a lot of stress on the country's health ministry. As the number of corona patients in the country was increasing, the Union Ministry of Health had to face criticism over several allegations and mismanagement.

After the expansion, the BJP-led government has 12 members from the SC community, including two in the cabinet, eight members will be from Scheduled Tribes including three in the cabinet, and over 25 members from the OBC community including five in the cabinet.
