Indore: Doctors remove largest white fungus from woman's brain

The second wave of corona in the country has subsided. But the threat of a third wave still looms over the nation. In addition, black fungus and white fungus have already disrupted the health system. The rising black fungus and white fungus cases have raised concerns of the medical field. Doctorns performed a yet another major surgery on a woman and removed largest ever white fungus from her head in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Doctors are also puzzled by the size of this white fungus.

Indore in Madhya Pradesh is now home to black fungus as well as white fungus. A 50-year-old woman from Dhar district was infected with covid. She recovered from covid after which she was hospitalized for a brain tumor operation. The doctor operated her and removed the tumor. The tumour was then sent to histopathology (biopsy) for studying it further. Except the biopsy revealed something else. The tumour wasn’t a tumour at all — it was white fungus.She was later biopsied in which doctor found white fungus in 

The white fungus was found to be the size of 8.4 X 4 X 4.6 cm by volume. Doctors claimed this is the “largest white fungus to be found in a patient’s body in the world”. Doctor said the white fungus presented itself in the patient’s brain the same way a tumour would, with similar symptoms. “She had difficulty in speech, and a dense hemiplegia or paralysis on the right side, with difficulty to move her limbs,” he said.
The woman is  now on anti-fungal medicines and physiotherapy. She will take some time to recover
