Mamata Banerjee on Delhi riots, 'problem should be solved first, political discussions can take place later'

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhubaneshwar on Friday said, "What happened in Delhi is very upsetting. It should not have happened. Police personnel and an IB officer lost their lives along with several people. The victims' families should be given help and peace should return."

Banerjee on opposition's demand of Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation in the wake of violence in Northeast Delhi said,"Right now, the problem should be solved, political discussions can take place later."

She spoke to media persons after attending the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC) meeting with Amit Shah. The EZC meeting was attended by four chief ministers of Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bengal with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Bhubaneshwar. 


 




After days of violent protests in northeast Delhi where at least 38 were killed and around 200 injured. The toll has risen to 42 with four more death reported. Shops were gutted, vehicles torched and families displaced as mobs took to the streets, escalating the tensions over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
