Monuments/sites and museums under ASI to open for tourists from June 16

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has taken an important decision against the backdrop of declining covid cases in the country. All the central protected monuments and museums in the country will be opened for tourists from June 16. The Archaeological Department had decided to close all monuments, memorials, historical sites and museums in the country till June 15 due to covid outbreak. Accordingly, 3,693 monuments and 50 museums in the country were closed for tourists since a long time.

Finally, from June 16, all these monuments and museums will be reopened. Earlier, it was said that monuments and museums would have to be closed for a loger period of time if the number of covid cases did not decrease. But over the last few days, the number of corona patients in the country has been steadily declining. Due to this, the Archaeological Survey of India has taken an important decision today.

All the monuments and museums in the country were closed last year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown in view of the covid pandemic. Then in July 2020, the Ministry of Culture had decided to reopen monuments, museums, tourist places and places of worship. But the government had laid certain guidelines for visiting tourists and were strictly ordered to follow them. Under the guidelines tourists were asked to wear mask and observe social distancing.
