Mum-Ahmedabad bullet train project: L&T wins contract worth Rs 2,500 cr

Larsen & Toubro has been awarded a contract worth Rs 2,500 crore for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor Scheme (Bullet Train). The company, meanwhile, did not say how many crores it had won. But contracts in this category range from Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore.

In its regulatory filing, it said, "The heavy civil infrastructure business of L&T Construction has secured a significant contract from two packages of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor."

Further detailing it, L&T said, the order is to procure, fabricate, assemble, paint and transport 28 bridges. It added, the project was secured through a consortium of L&T and IHI Infrastructure Systems (IIS) of Japan.

The initial deadline to complete the project is December 2023. The bullet trains are expected to run at 320 km per hour covering the 508-km stretch in about two hours. In comparison, trains currently plying on the route take over seven hours to travel the distance, whereas flights take about an hour.
