New Covid strain scare: No cause for concern, no need to panic, we need to stay vigilant, says Dr VK Paul

The Health ministry on Tuesday while breifing the press said that the new strain of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom has increased transmissibility. This mutation is not affecting the severity of the disease. The case fatality is not affected by this mutation, said Dr VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog.

He further said that there is no cause for concern, no need to panic, as for now we need to stay vigilant.

As of now, it has no impact on the potential of the emerging vaccines being developed in our country and are available in other countries, added Paul. He also said the new strain or mutation of Coronavirus seen in the United Kingdom has not been seen in India, so far.

The Indian government has sounded an alert in the country after reports of a new mutated strain of Corona virus having emerged in UK.

In light of the new COVID-19 strain found in the UK, said to be a super spreader with claims of it being 70 per cent more transmissible, the Indian government has temporarily suspended all passengers' flights to and from the UK.
