Nirbhaya case: Supreme court dismisses convict Pawan Gupta's petition

One of the Nirbhaya case convicts Pawan Kumar Gupta moved the Supreme Court on Friday, asking the court to review the dismissal of his juvenility plea. In his petition, the convict asked the court to review his petition which states that he is a juvenile. The apex court has dismissed his plea.

According to the Special Leave Petition (SLP), the convict was 17 years, 1 month and 20 days old when the incident took place. The plea had been rejected by the Supreme Court on January 20.

During the hearing, Justice Ashok Bhushan had slammed the convict's counsel AP Singh of causing a delay in the execution of the four men. AP Singh said, "It was a media trial under a political press. " Singh claimed that according to school documents, the convict was born on October 8, 1996, proving that he was a juvenile when the incident took place (2012).

On the same day, a trial court in Delhi heard a petition seeking a stay on the execution. The convicts' lawyer AP Singh urged the court to adjourn the execution "sine die".

Meanwhile, Irfan Ahmed, representative of the Tihar Jail said that a stay on the execution would not be "maintainable". He said that three of the four convicts can be hanged as they have already run out of their legal remedies.
