Odisha: Acid-attack survivor, Pramodini Roul marries her fiance

Acid attack victim Pramodini Roul married her fiancé Saroj Sahu at her residence in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha in the presence of family and friends on March 1.

The 28-year-old Pramodini, nicknamed Rani, had got engaged to her longtime friend Saroj on the Valentine’s Day in 2018 in Lucknow.

"I was attacked on April 18, 2009. I met my now-husband, Saroj in 2014 when I was undergoing treatment. He supported me throughout the journey," she said

Pramodini was attacked by a paramilitary jawan in Jagatsinghpur, he threw acid on her as she rejected his marriage proposal.  She suffered 80-per cent burns and lost her vision. She was in an ICU for nine months and spent a painful life for five years in hospitals in Cuttack.

Saroj quit his job to give her support, more care and attention. When Rani started recovering, she joined Sheroes’ Helpdesk in 2015. Saroj also joined the foundation, which runs a cafe chain. When Saroj had proposed Pramodini in 2016, she had not seen him as she had lost her eyesight. After she underwent an eye surgery in July 2017, she could partially see. Then, the couple decided to get engaged at the Sheroes, where she started her first job and a new life.

Odisha: Pramodini Roul, an acid attack survivor from Jagatsinghpur married her fiancé on March 1.
