Schools, colleges closed in Punjab till March 31st amid second wave of COVID-19

The Punjab government has ordered schools and colleges to be closed till March 31 in light of the rising Covid-19 cases. This decision comes soon after the state education department decided to postpone the class 10 and class 12 board exams in Punjab due to the pandemic. As per the recent order, college exams have also been postponed and a night curfew has been imposed in 11 districts. Earlier, as per the announcement made by School Education Minister Vijinder Singla, the Punjab government had declared preparatory leaves for all classes in the government, government-aided and private schools.

The Punjab class 10 and class 12 board exams were supposed to begin on April 9 and March 22 respectively. The Punjab class 10 board exams will now be held from May 4 to May 24, while the class 12 board exams will be held from April 20 to May 24. Today is the 359th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. So far, India has recorded 1,15,14,331 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,59,370 deaths. A total of 1,10,83,679 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far.
