Sharad Arvind Bobde named the new Chief Justice of India

Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde is officially the 47th Chief Justice of India as he took oath at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the midst of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Arvind Bode who will be at the helm for around 17 months succeeds Justice Ranjan Gogoi. His Warrant of Appointment was signed by President Ram Nath Kovind following which the Law Ministry issued a notification naming the judge as the next head of Indian judiciary. Hailing from a family of lawyers from Maharashtra, he is son of eminent senior advocate Arvind Shriniwas Bode.

Born on April 24, 1956 in Nagpur Maharsahtra, Bobde completed Bachelor of Arts and LLB degrees from Nagpur University. He has been part of many high profile cases and was part of the five judge constitution bench that passed the historic verdict that cleared the way for the construction of a Ram Temple at the deputed site in Ayodhya. He became the Chief Justice of the Madhya Prasdesh High Court in 2012. Chief Justice of India Gogoi who was sworn in on October 2018 retired on November 17th. The newly named Chief Justice of India is likely to demit the office by April 2021.
