Validity of driving license, vehicle documents extended till 30 Sept

There is a comforting news for drivers whose driving licenses or vehicle registration certificates have expired or are about to expire in the next few months. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued an advisory on Thursday. Also, the state transport department has been instructed not to cut the challans of such drivers. According to the government's order, drivers with expired driving license or expired RC will be given exemption till September 30.

The second wave of corona created havoc in the country. Strict restrictions were then imposed in various states. Although the situation is slowly returning to normal, the danger is not gone yet. Keeping this in mind, the government has taken this decision, so that the journey of the people will be convenient.

"Taking into consideration the need to prevent the spread of COVID-19, MoRT&H has advised the Enforcement Authorities that the validity of Fitness, Permit (all types), License, Registration or any other concerned document(s) may be treated to be valid till 30th Sept, 2021," read the notification by MORTH.

The notification further read this covers all documents whose validity has expired since 1st Feb, 2020 or would expire by 30th September 2021. This will help out citizens in availing transport related services, while maintaining social distancing.
