Rajasthan Royals defeated last runners-up Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). With a target of 217 in sight, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's CSK fell short of 16 runs.

Dhoni explained the logic behind this after the match. Dhoni had said that IPL 2020 is just beginning and now is the right time to test some things. However, this is not the first time that Dhoni has taken such a decision

Asked why he came so low in the order, the CSK captain said, "I haven't batted for a long time. 14-day quarantine doesn't help."Dhoni's reference was to CSK's extra one-week quarantine after 13 people in their contingent tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in missing out on important training sessions. He was not out on 29 off 17 balls with three sixes in the last over.

2) While leading the Rising Pune Super Giants team, Dhoni stopped giving opportunities to young bowlers and played with older bowlers. While leading CSK, Dhoni led the team to the playoffs 10 out of 11 times. But the 2016 season was an exception.

3) In the 2014 Champions League T20, Mahendra Singh Dhoni missed out on the selection of Mohit Sharma and Ishwar Pandey against Kolkata Knight Riders.

4) Albie Morkel, a South African all-rounder, played a key role in CSK's 2010 and 2011 titles. However, in the 2009 season, they decided to replace him with Jacob Oram and Andrew Flintoff. The two have combined for just 150 in 14 matches.

5) Before IPL 2020, CSK suffered a major setback due to the withdrawal of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh. Their replacements have not yet been announced. But, in his absence, the team's weak point is coming to the fore. Dhoni has no choice but to select all-rounder. Kedhar Jadhav.
