Marquee players who will be missing IPL 2021this year

Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer is all set to go under the knife on April 08 for the shoulder injury he had sustained in the first ODI between India and England in Pune. Iyer had partially dislocated his shoulder trying to save a boundary in the match and was immediately ruled out of the series. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020-21 season scheduled to kick-off on April 09, Iyer's franchise Delhi Capitals was hurt the most with the nature of the injury that its captain sustained. The middle-order batsman was immediately ruled out of the remainder of the ODIs against England and initial reports suggested that he will only miss a part of the IPL Season 14. The decision to have surgery on the left shoulder, however, means that Iyer could be out for about five months.
Mitchell Marsh pulled out of the Sunrisers Hyderabad's IPL 2021 campaign because of personal reasons. Marsh, last in action in Australia's T20I series in New Zealand in the first week of March, is understood to have been worried about the seven-day quarantine followed by the long stretch in biosecure bubbles - like everyone else - for the duration of his team's presence in the competition. England opening batsman Jason Roy has been roped in by SRH as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh. Marsh was bought by SRH for a base price of Rs 2 crore at the 2020 auction. However, he was not available for the majority of the season after picking up an injury. He twisted his ankle during SRH’s opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and was unfit to continue. SRH signed West Indian Jason Holder as his subsequent replacement.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were dealt with a big blow as their overseas signing Josh Hazlewood, pulled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The Australian bowler was set to depart for India, but decided to skip the tournament and spend some time with his family. IPL 2021 is set to begin from April 9, and CSK play their first match on April 10 against Delhi Capitals (DC). Taking to Twitter, CSK posted a photo of Hazlewood, and captioned it as, "Will be missing some Josh this #Summerof2021! Hoping for some aussome action soon in #Yellove! #WhistlePodu"Last season, Hazlewood played only three matches for CSK, and this year, he would be competing with the likes of Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Lungi Ngidi and Dwayne Bravo for a place in the playing XI.
Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe for Indian Premier League 2021. Philippe, who made his debut for RCB in IPL 2020 in the UAE, will be unavailable for the whole of the upcoming season, starting April 9 in Chennai. Josh Philippe, who was bought at his base price of Rs 20 lakh, played five games and scored 78 runs for the Virat Kohli-led franchise. He was among the players who were retained for IPL 2021 by RCB, who made the play-offs in IPL 2020 in the UAE. The Bangalore franchise later signed New Zealand's big-hitting opener Finn Allen as a replacement for Australia wicketkeeper-batsman. Finn had a base price of INR 20L equivalent to that of Josh Philippe. It will be Finn’s debut IPL season this year when he plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Allen has played 12 first-class, 20 Lista A and 12 T20s in his nascent career. His strike rate in the shortest format of the game is a staggering 183.27. As recently as February 28, Allen had smashed 128 off just 59 balls for Wellington against Otago in the domestic 50-over competition. In the Super Smash T20 tournament earlier this year, Allen topped the batting charts, scoring 512 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 193.33.
England fast bowler Jofra Archer is likely to miss the Indian Premier League 2021. The Rajasthan Royals pacer, who missed the recently-concluded ODi series against India, returned to the UK and successfully underwent surgery to his right hand. The England and Wales Cricket Board on Wednesday said Jofra Archer will need two weeks of rehabilitation and that a call would be taken on his return to training after the said period. Archer suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning at his home in January shortly before flying to India to prepare for the Test series. The ECB's medical team managed the injury throughout the tour, and it did not impact on his availability. Notably, Rajasthan Royals begin their IPL 2021 campaign on April 12 against Kings XI Punjab in Mumbai. They play as many as 6 matches in the month of April. Even if Archer is ready to take the flight to India after completing two weeks of rehabilitation, the pacer will have to undergo a week's quarantine before he joins the bio-bubble with the Royals.
