In the aftermath of the coronavirus crisis, the 2020 edition of the IPL was shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the entire season was played behind closed doors.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly had revealed that the apex cricket board is keen on marking the return of spectators in the 14th season of the IPL.

As per the latest developments in the build-up to the new season, Mumbai and Ahmedabad are reportedly in the fray to host the entire season of the IPL 2021.

Mumbai and Ahmedabad are likely to host the IPL 2021 matches. According to a report filed by news agency IANS, four stadiums in Mumbai will host the group stage of the tournament while the play-offs stage will be organised in Ahmedabad's newly reconstructed Sardar Patel stadium aka the Motera.

"At the moment there are discussions to host the league matches in four stadia in Mumbai -- Bradbourne Stadium, Wankhede Stadium, D.Y. Patil Stadium and the Reliance Cricket Stadium. The play-offs are expected to be held in the refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera," an official was quoted as saying.

"However, this is yet to be made official. The tournament is likely to be hosted either in mid-April or second week of April," he added.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal had hinted that Mumbai could host the league stage of the tournament since it comprises 3 cricket arenas and adequate training grounds.

After the success of domestic events including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare tournament, the apex Indian board is contemplating hosting domestic cricket's biggest extravaganza in India.

BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal had reportedly confirmed that IPL will be hosted in India.
