Defending champions Mumbai Indians, registered a clinical win against Kings XI Punjab as KL Rahul's men faced their third defeat in IPL 2020.

MI posted a total of 191/4 in 20 overs, after being sent in to bat by KXIP captain KL Rahul. Skipper Rohit Sharma was the highest run-scorer for the Mumbai-based franchise smashing 70 runs off 45 deliveries.

Windies pacer Sheldon Cottrell was the pick of the bowlers for KXIP, accounting for the key dismissal of Quinton de Kock while conceding only 20 runs.

All-rounders Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya ensured the perfect finish following Rohit's dismissal, with Pollard (47* off 20) and Hardik (30* off 11) smashing the ball to all corners of the ground.

In return, the Punjab-based franchise was restricted to 143/8 in 20 overs.

With the 48-run win, MI pip the Capitals to go top of the table with two wins from four matches.

Pacers James Pattinson and Jasprit Bumrah accounted for two wickets with spinner Rahul Chahar registering the same number of dismissals.

While Capitals are at two, they are followed by Rajasthan Royals and RCB. It is still early days in the tournament and many more shuffling is expected in the upcoming days.

Punjab find themselves at the sixth spot after the loss.

The result has pushed Sunrisers Hyderabad down to the seventh spot, while Royal Challengers Bangalore are the only other team with two wins at fifth. The loss to MI has led to KXIP dropping to the sixth position while the last spot is occupied by Chennai Super Kings.
