The vaccine has been developed by ICMR and the National Institute of Virology in India. . To make this vaccine, the NIV isolated a strain of the corona virus from the body of a patient who was infected with the coronavirus but showed no symptoms.

The vaccine has also been developed from the inactivated virus at Bharat Biotech's BSL-3 High Containment Facility in Hyderabad's Genome Valley to prevent the drug from affecting patients.

The vaccine has so far shown good results in terms of patient safety.
