While traveling from London to Cairo last week, Yemeni woman Hiyam Nasr Naji Daaban gave birth on an airplane, but the ordeal really delivered: It landed her the gift of motherhood — and her baby the gift of free travel.

Daaban was on an EgyptAir flight from the UK capital to the Egyptian capital on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when she went into labor while passing through German airspace.

After being told that a pregnant passenger was in pain, the flight’s captain requested an emergency landing in Munich — but the passenger gave birth before the plane could land, EgyptAir tweeted the following day.

While not an ideal birthing environment, the unique experience not only gave Daaban and her baby a good story, but EgyptAir also awarded the newborn free lifetime travel aboard the airline.

EgyptAir announced the celebratory prize on Twitter, alongside a photo of the infant with two masked individuals and a congratulatory message to both Daaban and Egypt Airlines chairman Rushdi Zakaria.

Daaban’s baby is not the first to score the sweet birth prize. In 2017, a baby boy born in flight aboard a Jet Airways plane also received the ultimate travel pass.

The child’s mother unexpectedly went into labor while 35,000 feet over the Arabian Sea, and crew members and a passenger who happened to be a nurse helped her deliver the baby — who was then awarded free lifetime air travel aboard the Indian line.

In June, a baby girl was born during an Emirates flight. While the child’s parents appropriately named her Sky in tribute, seemingly solidifying her destiny for a lifetime of travel, the airline did not offer to cover her costs for life.
