The number of corona cases in the country has crossed the 60 lakh mark. The death toll has reached around 1 lakh. The period of Unlock-4 of the Central Government has come to an end.

Metro service was launched under Unlock-4 from September 1 to September 30. Apart from this, it was also allowed to start classes from class IX to XII. However, the Thackeray government in the state has not started metros and schools yet.

Modi government has started preparations for Unlock-5. Work is underway to prepare rules in this regard.

Just last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with seven chief ministers. Talking to the Chief Minister, who has a large number of corona patients, Modi learned about the local situation.

Maharashtra has the highest number of corona patients. Therefore, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had participated in the video conferencing with Modi. This time, Modi emphasized on 'micro lockdown'.

Modi had suggested that states should consider how beneficial a one-two day local lockdown could be in areas with high prevalence of corona.

Whether Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will implement the idea suggested by Prime Minister Modi is now under scrutiny. Soon the state government will announce its new regulations under Mission Begin.

"There are more than 700 districts in the country but only 60 districts in 7 states are a cause of worry. I suggest CMs to hold virtual conference with people at district/block level for 7 days. We've to learn from the best practices from across the states," said PM in meeting with CMs.

Modi also said that "micro containment zones" should be the way forward as it will curb the infection spread and also allow activities to go on.

During the meet, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh urged PM Modi to direct urgent steps to ensure adequate supplies from other states and also sought expeditious release of ₹200 crore that state govt had requested as next tranche of central aid for Covid management, said Punjab CMO.
