In a shocking incident, 18 year old Karan of Bhatwa village of Unnao was experiencing pain when he was taken to hospital on Lucknow-Kanpur highway.
After a scan detected foreign bodies, doctors performed a three-hour surgery.
Doctors were left shocked by the bizarre weight of sharp-edged iron tools Karan was carrying in his stomach for two months.
In the 3 hour surgery doctors removed 30 three-inch iron nails, a rough-edged tool, a four-inchlong iron rod, four sewing machine needle threaders and a screw driver.
The patient’s father, Kamlesh, confirmed to doctors Karan was mentally disturbed and they didn’t know how he swallowed so many carpenter tools, which weighed over 300gm.
The operation was successful, said Radha Raman Awasthi, senior official of the private hospital in Shuklaganj area of Unnao.
“The patient appears to be mentally ill, but is recuperating. He did not respond to our queries on how iron tools entered his stomach,” he added.
“An ultrasound test was conducted, which confirmed presence of sharp foreign objects in his bloated stomach,” said a doctor. “ His family members were unaware how he had swallowed these, while revealing he was mentally unsound,” said a doctor.
