Delhi violence death toll climbs to 28, Narendra Modi appeals for peace and harmony

The death toll in the Delhi violence has climbed to 28.  National Security Adviser Ajit Doval visited the violence-hit parts of Delhi twice in under 24 hours and said that the situation was under control.Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to all for peace and brotherhood. PM Modi’s statement comes soon after Congress chief Sonia Gandhi accused the BJP and the central government of spreading hate and fear and demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah takes responsibility for violence and resigns.

An Intelligence Bureau staffer was on Wednesday found dead in a drain in northeast Delhi's riot-hit Chand Bagh area where he lived, officials said. The 26-year-old who was missing since Tuesday is said to have been killed in stone-pelting. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has held a string of meetings in the past three days, chaired a meeting again on Wednesday to review the security situation in the violence-hit areas in Delhi.
