Health Ministry: Claims of hacking of Co-WIN system and data leak baseless

Some posts claiming that CoWin, a digital platform designed for corona vaccination, has been hacked had gone viral on social media over the past few days. The Central Government has taken note of this and has clarified that all the claims are false and baseless.

News that data is being leaked from the CoWin app has gone viral on social media. An inquiry was called into the matter. The Union Ministry of Health and the Empowered Group on Vaccine Administration (EGVAC) had demanded an inquiry into the matter. Finally, the Union Ministry of Health has issued a statement in this regard and rejected all the claims.

The matter of the alleged hacking of the Co-WIN system has now been investigated by the Computer Emergency Response Team of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MietY), said a statement by the health ministry.

Dr R S Sharma, Chairman of the Empowered Group on Vaccine Administration (EGVAC) has clarified that “the claims of so called hackers on the dark web, relating to alleged hacking of the Co-WIN system and data leak, is baseless. We continue to take appropriate steps as are necessary, from time to time, to ensure that the data of the people is safe with Co-WIN”.
