Aurangabad, April 21:In a surprising development, one patient died due to a shortage of oxygen in Meltron Covid Care Centre started by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the civic administration is trying to hush up the matter by claiming that the patient died while being shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).Meltron CCC comprises 350 beds facility. More than 300 patients are undergoing treatment here at present. The centre provides oxygen facility to serious Covid patients and if the demand for oxygen is high then they refer the patients to GMCH. It so happened, one patient's health got critical yesterday morning. There was a need to increase the flow of oxygen, but due to the non-availability of the required quantity of oxygen, he died within few minutes, said the sources.However, the AMC is trying to cover up the matter. The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said, " The health condition of one patient got deteriorated yesterday. Hence he was being shifted to GMCH. However, he died while on way to the hospital."On other hand, the head of Meltron CCC Dr Vaishali Mudgalkar underlined that no patient had died in her CCC.It may be noted that when the AMC health section was contacted for details on the number of patients referred to GMCH from Meltron CCC and how many of them had died, so far. The section failed to produce the information.According to sources, there is an increase in referring patients to GMCH or District Civil Hospital on becoming serious for the past many days. Many patients fear being shifted to other hospitals. Meanwhile, an unscripted diktat has been made to the Meltron CCCs doctors that not a single death should take place in the CCC. They are not bothered if the patient dies outside the centre.
