Aurangabad, July 22:

The shortage of Covishield vaccine is worrying the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) as the waiting list of citizens waiting for the second dose of vaccine has touched 1 lakh today. It was 80,000 on Wednesday. The civic body continues to pursue the demand for an adequate supply of vaccines to cut short the waiting list, but it is unpredictable to say when the situation would improve in near future.

" The waiting list increased from 80,000 citizens (on Wednesday) to 1 lakh (on Thursday). The AMC has placed the demand to supply Covishield with the state government," said the municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr. Neeta Padalkar.

The MoH mentioned that the AMC has got 7,000 vials of Covishield on Thursday, but there is no planning of vaccination on Friday as there is no vaccine in the stock. We have a stock of 3500 Covaxin and its first and second dose will be given at three health centres - Kranti Chowk, Rajnagar and Ambikanagar (MIT Hospital) between 10 am and 4 pm. Online registration on CoWin app is mandatory, she said.

On Thursday 7,000 vials got emptied in four hours. It may be noted that 9-10 doses of vaccine are given in one vial (bottle). The AMC administered the vaccine through 39 centres. Today, it has come to notice that the AMC has issued the token to the citizens seeking the second dose, but they could not get the vaccine. It is obvious that to clear the waiting list, the AMC requires at least 10,000 vials.
