Aurangabad, Feb 12

In a tragic accident, two persons were drowned to death after the car they were travelling in ploughed into a well at Jamwadi, 5 kms away from Jalna on Friday night. The two bodies were fished out of the well. The victims have been identified as Shaikh Abdul Mannan Sageer (26, Pangri Road), and Azhar Qureshi (23, Shahunagar), both from Beed district. It is feared that other travellers in the car might also have been drowned and search operation was on till late tonight for tracing them.

The police said that the accident took place around 7 pm when the car (MH-22-AM-2701) carrying some people was going towards Deualgaonraja. The police said it appears that all died due to drowning. Due to darkness, the road was not clear following which the driver turned towards the wrong side and the vehicle fell into the well. Sub-divisional police officer Sudhir Khiradkar, tehsil police station officer Yashwant Bagul and team rushed to the spot and extricated two bodies.

The police officer said that the well was filled to capacity, hence, it was difficult to fish out the bodies at night. With the help of the crane, the car was taken out, however the victims were not found in it.

The car’s windscreen was broken. Its occupants might have come out by breaking it and drowned in the well, added the police.
