Aurangabad, May 17:

It appears that the traffic branch of city police is not taking any action against those who are riding their two-wheelers without helmets.

This was seen on city roads on Monday. It may be noted that the traffic branched announced that the driver to make wearing helmet compulsorily is being implemented from May 15 in the city.

It is mandatory to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle as per the traffic norms.

A fine of Rs 500 is collected against those who flout the norms.

Assistant commissioner of police (Traffic) Suresh Wankhede announced that the helmet campaign would be implemented strictly from May 15.

The matter came up for hearing in the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court recently, which scolded the police officer.

The implementation of helmet drive was not seen in any part of the city on Monday. So, 90 per cent of riders were moving without a helmet.

When contacted, police inspector of traffic branch Mukund Deshmukh said that the helmet drive is being implemented regularly in the city.

“The officers and employees of the traffic branch are taking action against riders without helmets in different check points of the city,” he added.
