2148 cases registered during Lockdown to be withdrawn

Aurangabad, Jan 30:

Around 2148 cases registered in the city against the residents for breaching the rules of Lockdown imposed between March 21 and June end last year due to Corona crises will be withdrawn. The government has taken the decision to withdraw the cases registered during this period for breaching lockdown.

During the lockdown, the residents were allowed to come out of the houses for two years to purchase essential commodities. Similarly, the shops were allowed to open during specific period, travelling in car and two-wheelers were banned and prohibitory orders were imposed. The police lodged cases against the residents for breaching the lockdown rules. In all, 2148 cases were registered at 17 police stations in the city between March and December. As the courts were closed during the lockdown period, the police could not file the chargesheet in these cases. However, the government decided to withdraw around 4 lakh cases in the state stating that it is inappropriate to call the residents to the court like criminals. These included 2148 cases in the city.
