2,148 cases registered in lockdown to be withdrawn

Aurangabad, Jan 30:

A total of 2,148 cases registered with different city police stations for violation of COVID lockdown would be withdrawn.

It may be noted that the State government decided to such cases. The decision will provide relief to those who are accused in the cases. There was country-wide lockdown from March 21 to June in 2020. Only essential commodities shops had permission to remain open for two hours. Cases registered for stepping out of homes without any government permission, keeping shops open beyond a given deadline, moving outside without mask and not maintaining social distance, under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A total of 2,148 cases registered in 17 police stations of the city between March and December 2020.

Notice was served to the accused to remain present in the court.

After registration of the complaint, police probed each case and prepared its charge sheet, but were unable to submit it in the court which was closed in lockdown. The Government feels that it would be good to call people in the court, who were affected from lockdown and facing financial problems. The Government decided to withdraw 4 lakh cases registered across the State.
