246 deaths of Covid patients in March worries health administration

Aurangabad, April 2:

As many as 246 Covid-19 patients had died and 17, 264 new patients were identified from March 1 to 31, this year. Besides, 11,900 patients were discharged from the hospitals in the last month.

It may be noted that the situation started becoming heinous after March 20 as there was reporting of 15-28 deaths daily since then.

The Coronavirus started spreading in the city (first wave) from March 2020, however, the situation got worsen and serious after one year in March 2021. The doctors at government and private hospitals are toiling hard day and night to save the lives of the patients, but are in vain. Surprisingly some patients are reported to be dying within 12 and 24 hours of admission in the hospitals.

This year, the Covid-19 situation changed drastically after March 22. Daily 15 patients were dying. The figure touched 28 on March 30. This was the highest figure in this month. The persons, who had died in GMCH and private hospitals, are in the age group of 60 years to 85.

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said, " The ratio of patients dying in GMCH and private hospitals have indeed increased in the past 10 days. The talks with the doctors are on and efforts would be taken soon to see what measures could be taken to prevent the deaths or curb the ratio of deaths. I hope it will achieve success."

The acting dean of GMCH Dr Varsha Rote said, " All facilities required for the patients are available in GMCH. A large number of patients get admitted to our hospital when their health is very critical. This is the reason why the ratio of patients dying within 24 hours to 48 hours after admissions had increased. We take all efforts for the patients, but I suggest the patients rush towards the hospital when they suffer any sort of health problem or detects the symptoms."
