453449 persons administered Corona vaccines in district

Aurangabad, May 5:

In all, 453449 persons were administered Corona doses (first and second doses) in the district till May 5. The targeted population in the district is 3287814. In all, 378528 (11.51 %) first doses were administered and 74921 (2.28%) until now.

The Corona vaccination started across the country from January 16 and so in the district. In the first phase, the health workers Corona warriors were the first to administered Corona doses. Around, 33,000 doses of vaccines were administered to the health workers in the district. Similarly, in the second phase, around 19,000 doses were administered to the frontline workers from the police and other government departments.

The vaccination drive for the general public started from March, 1, 2021. The residents over 60 years of age and over 45 years with co-morbidities were eligible for the vaccines in this phase. The target under this category set for the district was around 4.5 lakh people. In all, 77671 doses (including first and second) were administered till March 13 in the district. Later, the vaccinations gained momentum after the announcement of vaccination of all persons above 45 years.

The state government has announced to vaccinate the persons between 18 and 44 years from May 1. Although, there is huge response from this group, but the supply of vaccines is inadequate compared to the daily demand of the vaccines, the sources said.

The beneficiaries in this category have to register for vaccination on the Cowin.gov.in app. After the registration, they have to book an appointment at the desired centres. However, they are not getting the appointments at the centres. Presently, only a few centres in the city are giving doses to the beneficiaries in this age group while preference is given to complete the vaccination of the beneficiaries above 45 years of age, the sources added.
