75-year-old woman slain over land row by ex-hubby, 3 others in Vaijapur

In a sensational incident, a 75-year-old woman was brutally murdered in broad daylight by her husband and three others including stepson and grandson over the land dispute near the court on sub-divisional office road here on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Kesarbai Karabhari Gawali. The prime accused has been identified as Karbhari Kisan Gawali (80), while his accomplices as Bharat Karbhari Gawali, Atul Bharat Gawali and another person whose identity is yet to be known. While the police have put the prime accused behind the bars, the rest three accused are at large.

According to the details, the prime accused in the case, Karabhari Gawali possesses a farmland in Ghaigaon village in the Vaijapur tehsil. He was married to Kesarbai and they had one daughter. However, Kesarbai separated from him and was staying at her parents house at Bhingi village. She had been staying at her daughter''s house in Bhingi for the last 40 years.

Later Karabhari got married with another woman, Bijalabai. Kesarbai had a dispute over the farmland with Karbhari Kisan Gawali and Bijalabai Karabhari Gawali and the case was admitted in the Vaijapur court in 1972.

Karabhari Kisan Gawali had given 4 acre 33 R land to wife Kesarbai as an alimony. However, her step son Bharat Karabhari Gawali and step grandson Atul Bharat Gawali were reluctant to give the possession of this farmland to the old woman.

The writ petition was admitted in the Vaijapur court to obtain the possession of this land. The incident occurred at 11 am on Saturday when Kisan Tambe and his grandmother Kesarbai had come to the court on the motorcycle from Bhingi to attend the court hearing.

According to the complaint filed by Kisan Tambe, all of a sudden Karabhari Gawali, Atul Gawali, Bharat Gawali and an unknown person approached them. Atul Gawali and an unknown person caught hold of Kisan and Bharat Gawali caught Kesarbai and Karabhari Gawali attacked her with a sharp knife he had brought with him. He attacked the victim on her breast, head and back. She sustained grave injuries in the attack and died on the spot.

On getting the information, sub-divisional police officer Jagdish Satav, police inspector Anant Kulkarni, sub inspector Ramesh Jadhavar, Eknath Patil, Raju Rathod, Shivaji Maddewad, Prashant Gite, Vijay Bhotakar rushed to the spot and detained Karabhari Gawali.

When people on the road raised an alarm and started crowding at the spot, three of his accomplices fled. The police immediately took the injured woman to the sub-district hospital where the doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, a case of murder has been registered in the Vaijapur police station. Further investigation is on.
