Administration negligent about Corona deaths, loot of patient’s relatives

Aurangabad, May 8:

Some people taking advantage of the Corona pandemic are looting the relatives of the patients. The ambulances are recovering around Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 for taking the dead bodies from hospitals to the crematorium. Similarly, they have to spent the same amount at the crematorium for the expenses of diesel and additional woods. Hence, the relatives of the Corona patients deceased have to spent around Rs 10,000.

Although, the government has announced that last rites will be performed free on the Corona deceased patients. The responsibility to implement this decision rests on the municipal corporation. In all, 1775 dead bodies were taken to the crematoriums and graveyards since March 2021 in the city. These included 292 Corona patients and 719 Corona suspects. In April, last rites were performed on around 2000 Corona suspects. The municipal corporation has appointed an agency to take the bodies from hospitals to the crematoriums or graveyards. The administration pays Rs 2,500 for each body. Similarly, Rs 2,500 is given to the Smashan Jogi at crematorium. Hence, the corporation spends Rs 5000 on each body. Still, the relatives of the deceased patients have to spent additional amount for cremation. The court has taken cognizance of the news published in this regard, last month, but the situation has not changed yet. The administration is negligent about this situation.
