AMC accused of leasing out plot reserved to develop school for underprivileged students at Paithan Gate

Aurangabad, Oct 12:

The veteran leader of Communist Party of India (CPI) and former corporator Ashfaq Salami today accused the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration of leasing out the plot, proposed to develop a school for the wards of underprivileged citizens (at Paithan Gate area) to a private society.

" The AMC administration decided to build the school on land bearing CTS No.13916 at Paithan Gate. The construction of the building started but stopped after one neighbour of the school obtained an interim stay from the District Court in 2001. In the past 19 years, the AMC administration took no efforts to lift the interim order and start the works. Instead, the said infrastructure has been awarded to private society," alleged Salami while addressing a press conference today afternoon.

He mentioned that he was the corporator from 1995 to 2005. Hence, he initiated in constructing the school so as to impart education to the wards of poor and underprivileged persons. As per rules, the AMC started the construction of the building by spending Rs 8-10 lakh. Later on, the work halted after its neighbour''s objection.

Salami briefed upon agitations he had held during the past many years in a democratic manner so that the construction of school gets completed, but was in vain. Ironically, the AMC administration preferred operating a school in a rented building but took no pains to construct its building at Paithan Gate, explained Salami.

The AMC had given the school building to a private society on the lease after spending lakhs of rupees on the construction. The AMC''s estate section violated all the norms while giving the property on lease, alleged the former corporator.

He urged the administrator Astik Kumar Pandey to probe the matter and punish the officers at guilty. He also demanded to cancel the lease given to private society confidentially. He threatened to launch an agitation if the demands are not fulfilled on priority.
