AMC administrator issues ''high alert'' on disaster situation!

Aurangabad, Oct 14:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey has issued a ''high alert'' directing civic authorities to be on toes to tackle the possible disaster situation as the Weather Bureau had predicted about thunderstorm amid a downpour in the state.

The city and surrounding areas had received heavy rainfall this monsoon. As a result, Harsul Tank (on Jatwada Road) and Sawangi Tank (on outskirts of Harsul) had got filled up to their capacities. The Harsul Tank and Sawangi Tank are overflowing. If there is a downpour, there could be a flood in Kham and Sukhana Rivers. Earlier, the AMC as a preventive measure had started the process of shifting residents staying on the banks of these rivers through ward officers. It may be noted the AMC had to shift residents of Hilal Colony and Jalal Colony to a safe place temporarily due to a storm-like situation in the Kham River during last month.

Presently, the AMC is lifting 3-4 MLD of water from Harsul Tank and is supplying to the residents. Despite this, the level of water has not been affected. There is a huge flow of water in Kham and Sukhana Rivers. In the meantime, the prediction of heavy downpour had alerted the state government''s Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Department had issued an alert referring to the Weather Bureau''s prediction which mentioned the possibility of thunderstorm amid downpour till October 17.

Meanwhile, the Control Room is functioning on AMC campus. If the citizens come across any disastrous situation in and around the city, they should immediately inform the AMC, appealed the administrator.
