AMC finds no-claimants for 133 vehicles since past many years

Aurangabad, July 10:

Hundreds of vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, are lying unclaimed for years in the possession of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). These vehicles were lifted from different parts of the city as they were causing traffic congestion due to irresponsible parking on important roads, since 2017-18.

According to AMC sources, " The civic administration is making public announcements through media, every year, since 2018. In response to this, out of 265 vehicles, 132 vehicles were claimed and paid the necessary fines, but 133 unclaimed vehicles are still rusting in the possession of the AMC. With a view to e-auction these vehicles, the AMC has consulted the Road Transport Office (RTO) to prepare a scrap evaluation report. Meanwhile, the assistant commissioner (traffic) has also given its no-objection certificate (NoC) to AMC for conducting e-auction. Hence the AMC has geared up to auction vehicles after completing few formalities, soon."

The additional municipal commissioner (I) B B Nemane said, " The AMC in association with the RTO and Police (Traffic) had launched the drive to free the roads, especially the ones which are important and passing through the commercial markets, from traffic nuisance. Hence, the vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers were lifted and kept on the campus of few main police stations. When these spaces got filled up, these vehicles were kept on the campus of Garware Stadium. There were 265 vehicles, out of which, 132 vehicles were claimed, while 133 vehicles are lying unclaimed in the AMC's possession for the past few years."

Nemane said, " We have published the notice for public intimation in this regard. If anyone is having objection then they should register with us within seven days from today (Saturday). The auction will be done as per Section 438 of Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act."

The AMC sources underlined, " The citizens can visit Garware Stadium and see if their vehicle is there or not. They will have to produce vehicle documents to prove ownership. The civic authorities will verify the claim and after collecting the prescribed fine, the vehicle will be handed over to them. The e-auction will be done through the mechanical section."

Why vehicles are unclaimed?

According to experts, " The vehicles are lying unclaimed for years with AMC. It indicates that the vehicles might be stolen from other districts or the user would have bought it without any documents at cheap prices. The users are aware that if they come forward to claim the vehicle then they will have to produce vehicle documents. Besides, they also fear that the attempt may prove risky for them. Another angle is also there. The users, intentionally, also do not come forward to claim the vehicles, if it more than 15 years old as it needs huge money to complete renewal facilities with the RTO office."

RTO auctions its vehicles

The RTO auctioned the seized vehicles which were lying on its campus for the past few years, recently. The vehicles were seized by the office for violation of transport norms. Through e-auction, the Department of Transport earned a revenue of Rs 3.35 lakh. The office disposed of 30 autorickshaws as scrap, each for Rs 8,000 and through six other rickshaws, the office earned Rs 95,000 more. The auction process was completed under the supervision of RTO Sanjay Maitrewar and his team.
