AMC initiate's construction of shopping complex at Nehru Bhavan; notices to gala-occupants to vacate possession

Aurangabad, July 14:

Sensation prevailed amongst the gala-occupants on the campus of Nehru Bhavan after the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) served them notices directing them to vacate their possessions. The AMC has plans to construct a multi-storeyed shopping complex by demolishing the old structure. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 13 crore.

To promote and give a push to the cultural activities, the AMC had built Nehru Bhavan, 40 years ago. Accordingly, the programmes like school events, qawwali, mushairas, political meetings, cultural meetings, etc were being held for the past many decades. For the last few years, the campus of Nehru Bhavan is used to organise marriage functions. The AMC administrator A K Pandey initiated in making a plan to utilise the primely located property to its full capacity.

The complex at Nehru Bhavan will be constructed on the lines of the shopping complex built at T V Centre. The shops will be leased out to the highest bidders through auction. " When AMC floated the tender for the new complex, the occupants of galas approached the court. As a result, the judiciary ordered the AMC to complete the process as per the norms. Hence the AMC as a formality issued notices to the occupants to vacate their possessions," said the deputy commissioner Aparna Thete.

The demolition of shops vacating by the occupants, shortlisting the contractor, issuing work order, conducting an auction, etc. would indeed consume time. The total area of Nehru Bhavan is 4,050 square metres. The complex will comprise 26 shops and 24 traders' offices, apart from auditoriums, meeting halls, and a spacious parking bay. The estimated cost of the complex is Rs 13 crore and the AMC hopes to garner an income of Rs 17 crore from the project, it is learnt.
