AMC orders BGRL to deposit Rs 18 cr against laying of gas pipelines

Aurangabad, July 9:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) city engineer S D Panzade has informed that the civic administration has informed Bharat Gas Resources Limited (BGRL) to deposit Rs 18.85 crore prior to issuance of permission to lay gas pipeline in the areas falling under the jurisdictions of Zone 7 and Zone 9. The company, under its first phase, has plans to lay pipelines so that it could provide cooking gas to the citizens direct to their homes. Accordingly, BGRL sought permission from AMC to lay pipelines. In response to this, the AMC has ordered to deposit the above money as compensation against the loss which will be incurred to the AMC due to damage of roads in the above zones.

Earlier, the union minister of state Bhagwat Karad made the initiative to supply cooking gas through a pipeline to the citizens of Aurangabad and those staying in various localities of the Waluj MIDC sector. The task of laying the pipeline from Aurangabad to Ahmednagar is underway on a war-footing basis. The laying work has been completed till Waluj. Meanwhile, the company has decided to provide LPG in the homes of citizens of the above two zones. Hence the BGRL corresponded with the AMC and sought permission to lay pipeline adjacent to the roads. Hence the AMC asked the company to deposit the money.

Panzade added, the AMC has constructed cement and tar roads in the city by spending around Rs 400 crore. There is no need of digging the roads for the pipelines. The company has been instructed to use modern technology and machines at the crossing of roads.

It may be noted that Zone 7 comprises Jawahar Colony and other wards, while Zone 9 comprise of Kranti Chowk and other wards. However, it is learnt that the company will be laying gas pipelines only in the legal colonies, therefore, the residents staying in them will be benefitted only.
