AMC postpones water supply after technical snag in 700 mm pipeline

Aurangabad, April 23:

The old pipeline of 700 mm size supplying water to the city witnessed a technical snag after an air valve got damaged on Thursday late in the evening. As a result, the water supply schedule has been disrupted in the city. Now, the civic officials clarified that the localities expecting tap water on Saturday will receive water on Sunday.

The incidents of damage to air valves on the outdated pipelines (of 700 mm and 1400 mm size) are frequent. The damages, however, push the citizens to suffer and stay without water. Presently, the majority of the areas in the city are supplied water on the fifth day, if there is any technical snag then the water is supplied to them on the sixth and seventh day.

The executive engineer (water supply) Kiran Dhande said," The air valve of 700 mm pipeline got damaged near Taherpur village on Thursday night. The pipeline is laid underground, therefore, it was not possible for us to repair the valve by discontinuing the water supply through the affected pipeline. However, the water supply through the 1400 mm pipeline remained continued. In the meantime, several unexpected technical hindrances emerged during its repair. As a result, the water supply schedule of the city had to shift ahead by one day. The repairing of the valve got completed today (Friday) at 5 pm. It takes time for the whole water supply system to get recharged. Hence the areas which were expecting water on Saturday will now be getting tap water on Sunday."
