AMC to float global tender of Rs 25 crore to procure Covid vaccines!

Aurangabad, May 24:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey said that there is a need for 20,000 Covid vaccines daily, but its supply from the state government is insufficient. We are getting around 5,000 vaccines once or twice a week. However, to overcome the shortage of vaccines, the AMC, like Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC), may invite a global tender to stock the required vaccine. I am hopeful that there will be no shortage of funds even if we need to spend an estimated cost of around Rs 25 crore for the purpose.

While speaking to media persons Pandey said, " The city could be safe from Coronavirus only if 70 percent of its citizens are vaccinated and the anti-bodies are developed in them. There is zero response to the vaccination drive in few zones of the city, but we are determined to implement the vaccination drive successfully."

It is learnt that the AMC had vaccinated 3 lakh citizens, so far. In response to a question, Pandey said that the AMC will study the response to global tender invited by MMC, and afterwards, we will decide our next action. The AMC has the capacity to administer 20,000 vaccines daily. However, the planning of the drive is to be done on the availability of the vaccines. I am hopeful that the vaccines will be available in adequate quantity in the city and the country before December, hoped the administrator.

Vaccination to 14 lakh citizens

The AMC would need at least Rs 25 crore if it invites global tender to vaccinate 14 lakh citizens. In reply to a question relating to the poor financial capacity of the AMC, Pandey said, " There will be no shortage of funds for the essential works. The AMC's target is solely to vaccinate the maximum number of citizens as early as possible."
