AMC to implement pulse polio drive on Jan 31

Aurangabad, Jan 29:

The additional municipal commissioner B B Nemane today elaborated on the pulse polio immunisation drive to be

implemented by Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in the city, on January 31.

" The dosages will be administered to kids ageing between 0 to 5 years through booths from 8 am to 5 pm. The AMC has received a stock of 2.40 lakh dosages, and had stored the stock in various cold storages," said Nemane.

The civic body has hired autorickshaws equipped with the public address system (PDS) to create awareness about the drive amongst the citizens. The posters, banners and hoardings are also displayed to achieve the purpose, said Nemane.

Mission Indradhanushya

The government has directed to observe Mission Indradhanushya (Rainbow) from February 8 to 22 and from March 8 to 22. Under the mission, the kids less than two years will be administered dosages through 38 polio booths in the city.

1.98 lakh kids to benefit through the drive

The administration will be giving polio dosages to 1.98 lakh children of less than five years through 678 booths. A team of 1,890 health workers and 136 supervisors will be deployed on the task. Besides, 21 health squads and 27 mobile squads, apart from 15 transit squads, are deployed to make the drive successful.

The dosages will also be administered, apart from booths, at Railway Station, Bus Stands, Airport, Malls, Toll Nakas etc. The AMC has appointed 40 responsible medical officers to monitor the drive. The children, who could not take the polio dosages at the booths, will be given by visiting door-to-door in the next five days after Sunday.

Do not fear to polio dosage

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said," The polio patients have been detected in our two neighbouring countries. It is feared that it may arrive in India as well. Hence the pulse polio programme is being implemented in all over the country. If the kid is not well, then the dosage will be given as per the doctor's suggestion. The polio dosage has no relations with Covid-19. The parents should not hesitate or fear and get the dosages to their wards for his safety."
