AMC to spend Rs 12.50 crore on welfare of disabled citizens make provision of 5 pc fund in budget

Aurangabad, Oct 13:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) would be spending Rs 12.50 crore upon implementing 18 welfare schemes for the upliftment of disabled citizens in the city. Earlier, the state government directed the AMC to implement welfare schemes rather than providing financial assistance to disabled persons as two years ago, AMC had decided upon giving direct financial benefits to them.

As per government directives, the provision of 3 per cent fund has to be made in the annual budget for the welfare of disabled persons. However, this time the government directed to make a provision of five per cent in the budget. Hence, the AMC had made a provision of Rs 12.50 crore (5 pc) in the budget, said the chief accounts officer Sanjay Pawar.

The AMC will utilise the fund on implementing 18 different welfare schemes. It includes Rs 75 lakh for school and higher education, Rs one crore on housing, Rs 75 lakh for starting a business, Rs one crore to meet their medical expenses, Rs 75 lakh to provide concessions in public transport, Rs 75 lakh for purchase of wheelchairs, Rs one crore for setting up an audio library for blinds at each AMC''s public library, Rs 25 lakh to provide benefits to students in AMC schools, Rs 75 lakh to organise competitions, Rs one crore for setting up gyms, Rs 75 lakh for self-help groups, Rs 75 lakh to start night shelter for them, Rs 25 lakh to start pension, Rs 25 lakh to grant unemployment allowance, Rs 25 lakh for publicising and advertising welfare schemes, Rs 50 lakh for implementing any important scheme as per the situation.

The provision of the above fund has been made in the budget, and the expenses will be made accordingly for the welfare of disabled citizens, stressed Pawar.
