ASCDCL starts development of first bicycle track in city

Aurangabad, Jan 12:

The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) has started constructing the city's first dedicated bicycle track of 6-km long from Kranti Chowk to Railway Station.

Under Smart City Mission, the ASCDCL is organising various events encouraging the citizens to use bicycles, to reduce the threat of pollution to the environment, under the Cycles4Change. Hence the construction of track is a part of the initiative. ASCDCL chief executive officer (CEO) and Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey had declared of developing a dedicated bicycle track of 20 km long in the city, in October 2020.

ASCDCL also conducted programmes like street challenge events, stakeholders meeting, the survey of roads etc. Pandey also introduced Cycle to Work encouraging the civic officials, personnel and others to use bicycle from home to workplace. Earlier, a bicycle track of length 300 metres was painted on a road patch between Kranti Chowk and Osmanpura Circle. The task of fixing bollards and construction of footpath on this route got completed on Monday. ASCDCL deputy CEO Pushkal Shivam, assistant project manager Sneha Bakshi, Sneha Mohan, media analyst Arpita Sharad, Aditya Tiwari and cyclist Nitin Ghorpade were present on occasion.

ASCDCL was working on the track for the past three months and also sought the help of designer Akash Joshi. AMC's executive engineer Hemant Kolhe and assistant commissioner of police (traffic branch) Suresh Wankhede also extended their guidance in the task of the cycle track.

Shivam confirmed of undertaking the development of bicycle track on the road extending from Kranti Chowk to Railway Station. ASCDCL would also undertake the task of beautifying the route along with the bicycle track in future, he said.
