Ashti police arrest woman, aide held for cheating marriageable youth; the two had earlier duped 8 youths

Aurangabad, March 14: The Ashti police in Beed district arrested a woman and her aide for cheating marriageable youths, on Sunday.

A youth, resident of Shiral in Ashti tehsil, complained with the Ashti police that he married a woman on March 9. After the marriage, the bride started to demand Rs 2 lakh and threatened that she would file a complaint of rape if he failed to oblige.

The frightened youth narrated the entire episode to the Ashti police inspector Saleem Chouse.

The police confirmed that the girl and her one aide had been demanding money. The PI Chouse took the two government witnesses with him and the bride and his aide were caught red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 from the youth.

It was revealed in the police inquiry that earlier both had cheated seven to eight youths of lakhs of rupees.

There are marriageable youths but they are not getting brides, particularly in rural areas. The parents of the girls prefer to solemnise their daughter’s marriage with grooms doing jobs and hesitate in marrying off girls with farmers or youths living in rural areas. This makes the desperate youth fall in the trap of cheats.

Under the guidance of the superintendent of police (SP) R Raja, additional SP Sunil Lanjewar and deputy SP Vijay Lagare, the Ashti police team comprising PI Chouse, Pramod Kale, Bansi Jayabhaye, Santosh Kshirsagar, Pradeep Pimple, Sachin Kolekar, Swati Munde, Shivprakash Tavale and Riyaz Pathan executed the trap.
