Aurangabad, Feb 24:

Bhujarangrao Kulkarni, who played an important role in Dr Babsaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University's foundation, was its vice-chancellor twice.

VC Dr Pramod Yeole said that Marathwada lost an incredible personality in the death of Kulkarni’s death. He said that the former VC’s contribution would always be remembered.

VC Dr Yeole said that Dr Kulkarni was a district collector when the university was being founded.

“As an IAS officer, he has a lion’s contribution to Marathwada’s development. The foundation of the university was laid in 1958 when Kulkarni was a district college," he said.

He moved with the then chief minister

Yashwantrao Chavan to select land for the university.

He also toured with Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and the first prime minister of the country Pandit Nehru in the region.

“He was university VC twice. The first time, he was from December 24, 1975 to March 1976 and the second time from June 29, 1985 to October 31, 1985. We rich tributes to him,” he added.

The university honoured Kulkarni with Jeevan Gaurao award in 2015 for his contribution to the university’s development.
