Aurangabad, March 24:

The drop in birth rate of newborns in the jurisdiction of the city compared to the rural areas of the district in the past one year has pushed the health administration to worry.

It may be noted that 43,305 babies were born in the city in 2018. The figure dropped to 21,831 in 2019 and 15,432 in 2020. On the other hand, the rural sector has also witnessed a reduction in the birth rate in the past year. A total of 71,312 babies were born in 2019, and the figure dropped to 64,695 in 2020.

The acting municipal officer of health (MoH), Dr B D Rathodkar," It is true that the birth rate has been a reduction in urban sector compare to the rural areas in the past one year. There could be various reasons for it. We will undertake a study to find out the reasons for it. It would be not justified to reach upon any conclusion in this regard."
