Burden of delivery, non-covid patients on GMCH

District Civil Hospital (DCH) is treating only the Covid patients for the past seven months. Hence, the delivery and non-Covid patients'' burden has fallen on the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) along with the Covid patients. As the Corona patients in the district is declining gradually, the treatment of the other patients at DCH is awaited.

Before the Corona phase, outer patients department, delivery and caesarean facilities were started at DCH. However, only Corona patients were being treated here since March. The capacity of DCH was increased from 200 beds to 300 beds. As a result, the other patients have to go the GMCH. Around 1500 patients come to GMCH daily and 40 to 50 deliveries ae conducted here.

The Corona patients have decreased for the past 15 days. Hence, out of 300 beds at DCH, 172 are vacant presently. Similarly, 200 normal deliveries and 25 caesarean surgeries were conducted in a month, before the Corona phase.

Meanwhile, additional district civil surgeon, Dr Kamlakar Mudkhedkar said, DCH is planning to start the normal deliveries and caesarean surgeries when the number of Corona patients will decrease below 100 mark, he said.
