Aurangabad, Jan 15:

The ratio of accidents in the city reduced by 28 per cent in 2020 compared to the figures in 2019. Accordingly, the deaths and injuries are also reported less during the last year. It may be noted that Aurangabad was listed in Red zone category due to the rise in accidents during 2019.

It is learnt that the population of vehicles (all types) in the district is 14 lakh and a majority of them are two-wheelers. It means 8,000 vehicles come on the road every month and 251 on each day.

After listing under Red zone, the State Road Safety Committee ordered to take appropriate measures to curb the city's ratio of accidents and deaths. Accordingly, the necessary steps were taken as a part of the District Road Safety Campaign. Notable efforts were also undertaken by Road Transport Office and police administration including traffic branch. The assistant road transport officer (ARTO) Swapnil Mane confirmed that the ratio of the accident is less in 2020 compared to the figures of 2019.

It may be noted that the collector is the president of the District Road Safety Committee. He will be feted for guiding in taking collective efforts at a programme to be organised under the State Road Safety Campaign.
